Christoph Scheuring: Music - Eine Hintergrundmusik zu einem Film

Innerhalb der letzten acht umo-Ausgaben bereits zum zweiten Mal ins adq (artwork des quartals) zu kommen, muss als besondere Ehre für die Gestaltungskunst einer Band gelten. Doch obwohl noch viele optische Perlen in den Schränken der umo-Redakteure darauf warten, vorgestellt zu werden, gab es bei der Platte "music" von S/T keine Diskussionen – dafür ist diese Platte einfach zu originell und liebevoll gestaltet.

Als S/T -Fan ist es Pflicht, die nur innerhalb von drei Monaten erhältlichen, auf die Bestellanzahl limitierten 2004er Quartalsveröffentlichungen mit integriertem optischen Genuss quasi ungesehen zu kaufen. Bei "Music – eine Hintergrundmusik zu einem Film den es nicht gibt" verschlug es mir nach Öffnen des Päckchens dann doch die Sprache. Vor mir lag eine Bronze-eloxierte kleine Filmdose mit der Stanzung "Music : s/t" auf der Vorder- und "S.O.S. 020" als Labelbezeichnung auf der Rückseite. Die Adaption auf den Albumtitel, das wird erst nach dem Öffnen der Dose klar (nur im Booklet erscheint der Hinweis auf den nicht existierenden Film), wurde mit einem einfachen und trotzdem super originellen Einfall umgesetzt.

S/T wären nicht S/T, wenn das alles gewesen wäre. Nach Öffnen der Filmdose grinst den Hörer eine Ladung Popcorn mit Haltbarkeit (!) bis 31.08.2004 entgegen. Zeit für mich, die Platte vor meiner Frau in Sicherheit zu bringen ... Denn es steht ja wohl fest, Das dieses Original-S/T-Popcorn, original von S/T abgefüllt, nie verspeist werden wird (na ja, mal sehen auf welche Ideen die Kinderchen noch kommen werden). Es stellen sich mir nun mehrere Fragen:

1. Wirbt S/T nun um die Frauen seiner Fans ? Wäre an der Zeit, denn meine Frau kennt nur das von meiner Musik, was sie absolut abstoßend findet – Magma, Devil Doll und eben S/T.
2. Darauf aufbauend: Eignet sich diese Musik nun für meine Frau ? Na hoffentlich nicht ...
3. Handelt es sich dar um eine DVD, was zwar ein Kracher wäre, aber mich voll auf dem falschen Fuß erwischen würde ?

    

   Neben dem Popcorn liegt noch ein zugeschnürtes fettes Booklet mit gelbem Umschlag in Verputzstruktur in der Dose. Dokumentiert villeicht den Zeitgeist, da hier an der Mosel jedes zweite neue Haus gelb verputzt wird. Möglicherweise wieder eine Hommage an meine Frau, die ebenfalls unmissverständlich auf die Farbe für unser Haus bestand? Das Booklet ist wie immer bei S/T ausführlich, Und die Songtexte lassen auf ein außergewöhnliche S/T-Audiowerk schließen. Die im Booklet integrierte, von einer kleinen s/w-Hülle geschütze CD(R) belegt dann diese Vermutung nach dem ersten Hören. Und beruhgigt mich auch in anderer Hinsicht – weiterhin nichts für meine Frau !

Background Music for a Film

To be selected for adq (artwork of the quarter) already for the second time within the last eight umo-publications, must be considered as a special honour for the graphic designs of a band. Even though many optical pearls are still waiting in the cupboards of the umo-editors to be presented, there was no discussion concerning the record "Music" by S/T - for this the record is simply too original and the lay-out too lovingly.

As S/T-fan it is your duty to buy the, in numbers of orders limited and only obtainable during three months, 2004 quarter publication with integrated optical enjoyment, quasi unseen. After opening the package of "Music - a background music for a film that doesn't exist", it really did leave me speechless. In front of me lay a bronze-anodized small film can with "Music: S/T" punched on the front and "S.O.S. 020" on the back as indication of the label. The adaptation of the album title, which only becomes clear after opening of the box (only in the booklet the reference to the non-existing film appears), is justified with a simple yet very original idea.

S/T would not be S/T if this were simply it. After opening the film can a load of popcorn with best-before date (!) of 31.08.2004 stares at the listener. Time for me to put the record into safety against my wife ... For it is now certain that this Original-S/T-Popcorn, originally filled up by S/T, will never be consumed (well, we will have to see what ideas the kids can come up with). Several questions now come to mind:

1. Is S/T now bringing in the wives of its fans? It was about time, since my wife knows only that of my music, what she finds absolutely repulsive - Magma, Devil Doll and indeed S/T.

2. Building on this: is this music suitable for my wife now? Well, hopefully not ...

3. Are we dealing here with a DVD, which would be quite a cracker, but would put me on a completely wrong footing?

Apart from the popcorn a thick tied up booklet with a yellow plasterwork cover lies in the box. Perhaps this documents the spirit of the time, since here along the Mosel every second new house is plastered in yellow. Possibly again a homage to my wife, who also wholeheartedly insisted on this colour for our house? As always with S/T, the booklet is very thorough, and the lyrics suggest an extraordinary S/T-audiowork. The CD(R), integrated in the booklet and protected by a small b/w-jacket, then confirms this assumption after a first listen. And also reassures me in another way - still nothing for my wife!
